Ahmed Negida is a physician-scientist, a social entrepreneur, and a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School. He was nominated for the Sigma Xi scientific honor society in 2021. He is the Global Neurosurgery Committee Secretariat of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and the managing editor of the Journal of Global Neurosurgery, the world’s first global neurosurgery journal. He is the founder of the Global Neurosurg Research Collaborative, a non-profit global research collaborative currently hosted by OHSU, which aimed at conducting multicenter studies to improve global neurological and neurosurgical care.
He graduated from Zagazig University with a bachelor of medicine and surgery (MBBCh) in 2018 and in December 2017, he did a neurosurgery observership rotation at the Medical University of Graz International in Austria under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michael Mokry. In 2019, he did a neurosurgery research fellowship at the Neurological Surgery Department of Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul, Turkey, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Akin Akakin, then he returned to Egypt to complete his clinical internship training at Zagazig University Hospitals. Currently, he is completing a Doctor of Philosophy by Publication (Ph.D.) in biomedical sciences at the University of Portsmouth. In addition, he is the Paul Farmer Global Surgery Fellow (2021-2023) at Harvard Medical School’s Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine.

Ahmed Negida has taught more than 5000 people from several Middle-East and North African countries through on-site and online workshops. His website: https://academy.negida.com/ is dedicated to providing courses and workshops about clinical research in both Arabic and English languages.
Examples for some of these workshops:
- In 2016, he was invited by Magrabi Foundation for community eye health to give 2 lectures in their clinical research training at the American University of Cairo
- In 2017, he was invited to Assiut University College of Human Medicine during his 5th-year undergraduate studies in the medical school to give some research lectures.
- In 2017, he was invited to give a 3-day “systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials” workshop to 20 faculty members from Suez Canal University
- In 2018, he was invited to give workshops for faculty members on “How to Calculate the Sample Size” in the Medical Education Development Center (MEDC) of Kasr Alainy School of Medicine, Cairo University, Egypt.
- In 2019, he gave 2 clinical research courses to medical students and doctors in Mehtab Training Center, Amman, Jordan.
E-Publishing Experience
Dr. Negida is a peer-reviewer and/or editor in many international peer-reviewed journals including PLOS one, Medicine (by Wolters Kluwer), Frontiers of Neurology (neurotrauma section), Pain Research and Management (by Hindawi), Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry (by BMJ), and 20 other journals. According to Publons, a website that verifies peer-review and editorial services, Dr. Negida has revised more than 90 submissions and has taken an informed editorial decision on more than 80 papers. Further, he ranks among the world’s top 2% peer-reviewers across all scientific fields.
Dr. Negida is currently the managing editor of the Journal of Global Neurosurgery, the world’s first journal dedicated to Global Neurosurgery. His long expertise in the field of academic publishing in 3 major journals that are currently indexed in PubMed, SCOPUS, and Calrivate enabled him from starting the DataCliNiX publishing division with the aim of promoting medical publishing in the MENA region while adhering to the COPE and ICMJEs standards.
Research Publications and impact
Dr. Negida has published more than 30 conference abstracts and more than 90 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals. His google scholar profile displays about 158 scientific items. His research interests are neurological sciences and neurological surgeries related to Parkinson’s disease, pain, stroke, epilepsy, and brain cancers. Also, he is doing research in global neurosurgery and global health. Despite his young age, Google Scholar showed that his publications received a total citation of +2600 citations with an H-index of 25. Currently, he ranks among the world’s top 2% experts in Parkinson’s disease.
Honors and Awards
In recognition of his scientific contributions, he was nominated as a full member of the Sigma Xi scientific honor society in 2021 (Membership ID: 20219991031). Membership at the Sigma Xi scientific society is reserved for scholars elected or endorsed by members in the field. He was also selected for 10 grants/awards by professional medical societies around the world (in the US, Singapore, Europe, Canada, Korea)
Leadership in Global Collaboratives
In 2014-2015, he was the national research coordinator of the first global surgical study of the GlobalSurg Collaborative (GlobalSurg I); he coordinated more than 300 surgeons in 27 centers in Egypt, the study was published in the British Journal of Surgery, the highest impact surgical in Europe.
In 2018, Dr. Negida was the regional coordinator of the Global PaedSurg study within North Africa and the Middle East region. The study aimed to evaluate the management and outcomes of congenital anomalies in high-, middle-, and low-income countries.
In 2018, Dr. Negida created the Global Neurosurg Research Collaborative, with the help of Professor. Ahmed M. Raslan from Oregon Health and Science University. The Global Neurosurg Research Collaborative is a worldwide network of neurosurgeons conducting global multicenter studies to assess the current gaps and inequities in the practices and outcomes of neurological care and neurological surgeries between high-income countries versus low- and middle-income countries.
